You can create two types of certificates with Verisart:
- Certificate of Authenticity
The most secure type of certificate which contains the signature of the artwork's creator
- Certified Record
A formal declaration of ownership registered on the blockchain. It doesn’t contain the artist’s signature, so it is clearly labelled as a Certified Record.
To use the system correctly, it’s important to use the right type of certificate:
If you are the creator of the artwork, then you should choose the option “Myself” when you’re creating the certificate. This will prompt you to upload a signature in order to create a full Certificate of Authenticity.
If you are a gallery who represents artists, you need to ask artists for permission to upload their signature to our system. If they agree, then you can create Certificates of Authenticity on their behalf. If you’re creating Certificates of Authenticity for multiple artists, you must upgrade to our Business Plan. If you don’t have permission from the artist to use their signature, you can still create Certified Record by choosing the option “Another artist”.
Collectors who are registering ownership of an artwork should create Certified Records. These certificates are registered on the blockchain and capture the same provenance information as the Certificate of Authenticity. They are labelled Certified Records to make clear that the record was created by someone other than the original creator of the work. Please choose the “Another artist” option when creating your certificate.
